Patrice Gans

My name is Patrice Gans, and I am the new K-8 representative to the CSTA board of directors. I am the technology teacher at Fraser-Woods School in Newtown, CT. I received my Masters in Computer Science from Pace University and began my teaching career as an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at Western Connecticut State University. Shortly after my daughter was born, I went back to school to receive my K-6 certification in elementary education. In addition to this certification, I also have a cross-endorcement in middle school mathematics for grades 6-8. My favorite part of teaching is watching students expand upon the technologies they've learned. I'm always thrilled when my students share their discoveries with each other and make the technology their own. As the new CSTA K-12 representative, I hope to advocate for a national curriculum that includes computer science starting in elementary school. Computer science is essential for the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills and will continue to be an integral part of life in the 21st century. Our schools have an obligation to prepare our children for the future by renewing and strengthening their commitment to computer science education.

Mindy Hart

Mindy is starting her second term as the At-Large Representative on the CSTA Board and currently serves as the K-12 Outreach Coordinator for the Department of Computer Science at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. She received her B.A. degree in Education from Purdue University in May of 1995 and received her Master's in School Administration in August 2006. In addition to her undergraduate and graduate work, she has taken supplementary classes in Visual Basic Programming and Information Security. Prior to beginning her role at Purdue, she was a high school computer teacher at Marquette High School in Michigan City, Indiana. At Marquette, Mindy taught courses in Computer Applications, Computer Programming, and Web Design. During the summers, she has previously served as the Director of the Boiler Kids Camp at the Recreational Sports Center on the Purdue campus. In her spare time, she likes to hang out with friends, be crafty, make cupcakes, and watch sports and movies!

Karen Lang

Karen Lang began her professional career as a computer programmer. After several years working at various software companies in Massachusetts, she made a career change to education. Ms. Lang has taught math, computer applications and computer science to high school students in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and England. She also acted as technology coordinator at American international schools in Venezuela and Hungary. She has taught computer science for the past eight years at the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science in Worcester, MA. Her main area of interest is teaching problem solving skills through programming. With an undergraduate degree is in Fine Arts, Ms. Lang also enjoys exploring the arts with the students of Mass Academy in various elective courses. She has served on the board of directors of the Computer Science Teachers Association since 2009, and is actively involved in the Greater Boston chapter of CSTA.
