ACM Career Resource Center

Computing/IT Careers Information:

Visit ACM's Career Resource Centre (CRC), oriented for computing and IT students and professionals. The CRC consists of the following sections:

Articles and Columns - deals with IT Compensation, "Day in the Life" series, Current State of IT Labor Market, Women in IT, etc.

Community - place where students meet students, students meet professionals, and professionals meet professionals, and those "no-nonsense" questions are asked and answered.

Job Centre - location to view all the jobs on the job board _ take a look at the Job Seeker section, and, as an ACM member, you can apply online. You can also advertise any jobs; take a look at the Employer section for rates and instructions.

Self-Assessment Tools - These tools were developed by professional career counselors for use by computing and IT professionals and students for the purpose of self-clarifying your career values. ACM's Career Development Process is based on this simple but important value: to help our members get the kind of "clarity" they need and deserve in order to be successful. In career development terms, it comes down to being able to clearly and confidently answer these three important Career Fitness questions:

  1. Do I Know My Self?
  2. Do I Know My Direction?
  3. Do I Have A Plan?

There is a trend towards "careering," whereby individuals may have up to seven different careers, so understanding and knowing your career values is imperative in order to be able to make considered and thoughtful decisions about your career. This section consists of the following idea-generating tools:

  • Career Fitness Questionnaire
  • Career Values Clarifier
  • Interests & Skills Analyzer
  • Self-Management Skills Assessor
  • IT Capabilities Cataloguer
